What Should I Eat After Drinking Too Much?
Eat plain foods like toast or crackers, and drink water, broth, or another non-alcoholic drink. A greasy breakfast won't make alcohol leave faster.
The simple answer
Keep it plain. Toast or crackers are good choices after drinking too much. Have water, broth, or another drink without alcohol too. A big greasy breakfast might sound good, but it won't soak up alcohol that's already in your body. Food and fluids may help you get through the day; your body still needs time.
Myth vs Fact
A greasy breakfast soaks up the alcohol.
Cleveland Clinic lists a greasy breakfast among tempting quick remedies and says the best approach is to wait it out and drink lots of water.
The science
- Cleveland ClinicAlcohol affects how your liver and pancreas manage blood sugar, which can lead to low blood sugar and feeling shaky, weak and sweaty.
- Cleveland ClinicBland foods with complex carbs can help stabilize blood sugar and reduce nausea.
- Cleveland ClinicEating before drinking helps slow how fast alcohol is absorbed. That part matters the night before, not the morning after.
